I'm curious. I have seen centers for women here in Taiwan, but are there places for men as well?

Is there a good men's doctor in Taipei that can do overall health checkups as well as check the 'equipment' for STDs etc.?

I'm afraid the short answer is "no". A long time ago I did once need the services of such, and found that although there are urology departments the doctors there seem to have been trained in 1930. They get all embarrassed if you even mention an STD test, and don't seem to know what they're doing anyway. They'll invariably do one of two things, usually without even examining you : 1) prescribe some random drug - typically amoxycillin - to see what happens (pretty much everything is resistant to amoxycillin, and it certainly doesn't work for most STDs); 2) if you REALLY push them they'll grudgingly do a culture plate, but if this comes back negative, they'll tell you with classic Taiwanese logic that you don't have anything wrong with you. They don't seem to have PCR facilities, or won't use it for STD testing. I suggest going abroad, maybe Thailand where they're unfazed by, well, pretty much anything, and perhaps have a better grasp of how to use their diagnostics. Only exception to all that is HIV testing, which is quite routine: you can go to any family-medicine department in any hospital and they'll do it right away.

I think Medical care plays the main role in quality standards for health care centers and agencies.
