I gave up today and turned on the aircon for the first time in 2010. It is hot though isn't it? Ok I was cooking a spicy curry, but when I couldn't see through my glasses for the sweat I relented and turned on big Bertha.

It's much earlier than last year though it seems, or is it just me?

Not you. We had it on last night and tonight. Muggy and totally avoidable.

Is it a good idea to get the aircon units serviced? Ours are only a couple of years old, but I have read that you should get them checked out and have the fluid replaced.

Anyone else done this?

We just clean the filters and cross our fingers.

It's waaaaaaay too early to be turning on air con. Even fans are still optional at this point. I guess it's the Mexican in me.

The best thing about living out here in the sticks - don't need aircon.

I don't think you were too early this year, dude. It's usually around 4/27-4/28 that the air con first gets turned on...

Well, it definitely depends on your accomodations and location. Rooftops in the city center are gonna get hot earlier. We're a little cooler where we are, and those in the hills even more so.

I'm sure we lasted till June last year. Sometimes I do yearn for the rooftop of Hsintien... Then again the humidity in the mountains was a killer.

I turned mine on this morning. It's nice.

Ours is ON.

In the end I did get the guys out to look at our main unit as it was clearly not working right, and despite their protestations that we weren't using the remote right they came. It had been just under 5 years since we bought it, and a quick refresh of the mysterious fluid made everything right. They also told us that the standard guarantee is 5 years so we got the money back.

All is lovely and chilly again and the world is at rights.
