Latest News: June 27th 2014

The only thing more predictable than a poor World Cup for the England team? The heat in Taiwan at this time of year. Woof!

As we wilted last week, a quick review of the articles published since the last latest news. On the busses shows that taking a bus in Taiwan doesn’t have to be hell, unless you are on the 666 perhaps (there really is a 666 bus route in Taipei).

Also news of a fascinating exhibition at Futai Street Mansion featuring photos of Taipei from the Japanese occupation. It’s free and well worth visiting.

The featured article this week is a trip to the resort that time forgot, namely Yun Hsien Resort in Wulai, located about 30km to the south of Taipei City. If you go, load up your music player of choice with Guns N’ Roses’ Welcome to the Jungle. Snakes, bugs of all descriptions, waterfalls, beautiful mountain scenery, fresh air, villas, only reachable by cable car, and a ghost train. Only in Taiwan.

Other happenings on the site include the latest news of summer beer festivals, some excellent restaurant recommendations, and whether it is acceptable for foreigners to be charged extra just because of their foreignness, even if they get a nice towel. If you are into scuba and fancy a dive in Kenting, check out this thread, and if you are interested in going on a diving trip to the Maldives in 2015, check out this thread.

And in Taiwan-related news, if you are going to Glastonbury this weekend (the UK festival), check out the Taiwanese bands. Yes, really.

As always, if you have any feedback or comments, please get in touch.

Thanks again for reading, have a great week, and we hope to see you back soon.

Taiwan Ho!
